Wellow Barn

A ‘quirky’ 1980’s self-build conversion and extension of a barn and cow byre provided an interesting challenge for the new owners. The conversion layout fell into several traps associated with poorly designed Barn conversions. The building needed to be stripped back to it’s bones, and beyond in some places.
The whole site has been reimagined to make a new, clear, formal entrance with ample but discrete parking screened from the house. The former parking yard that was the principle outlook for the barns, will become an intimate walled garden, sheltered from the strong westerly winds.
The result is a much altered and extended home where open spaces and cosy rooms interconnect to suit the growing family. Works to complete the landscaping are ongoing, and as all gardeners know, the garden will never be finished!

Here's what our client said:
"Richard is a brilliant architect. He designed an innovative and very liveable barn conversion for us and we could not be happier with the result. I would not hesitate to recommend his services to anyone looking for residential architectural help."
